Mildly Eccentric
A touch unexpected, rather charming
From the size and the date of the house whose yard it's in, I'm guessing this tree to be about 60 years old. Why? Because monkey puzzle saplings were given out at the Seattle World's Fair (the exposition for which they built the famous Space Needle) in 1962, and Seattle is just up the road a couple hundred miles from Portland. It's reported that there used to be two monkey puzzle trees at this address, but only one remains. The homeowners seem to appreciate it: they've mounted a fallen branch from it on their garage like a hunting trophy.
