A fine specimen in its natural habitat
Listed in Trees of Greater Portland, by Phyllis C.Reynolds (2012), this magnificent giant stands in the front yard of an early-1900s three-story house in Portland's prosperous Laurelhurst neighborhood. Its label reads: Portland Heritage Tree MONKEY PUZZLE Araucaria araucana Designated by Portland City Council 2014 I believe this might have begun as one of the saplings given out at the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland in 1905, and as such is 120 years old.
