Peak monkey puzzle. Magnificent.
This is the site of a very large monkey puzzle tree plantation which will be very interesting to watch as the years go by. Australia's National Arboretum at Canberra has large lots of single species planting. Whilst many Chilean monkey puzzle trees grew slowly under a canopy of Southern Beech before reaching for the skies, the progress of these trees which have been in the open - in many ways similar to gardens - will be different. The conditions here are verging on the arid, and the monkey puzzle and angustifolia trees elsewhere on the site show a progression similar to those in the drier locations of Southern Chile and Western Argentina. (The suggestion that each tree be catalogued here seperately is for others to undertake.)
